■ statement——曖昧な境界を生きていくために
地球の営みや生命を見つめる写真家の視点は、多くのことを教えてくれます。
人は多くの物事の価値を、人間だけに通用する物差しで測ります。
しかし、道端に咲く花、空を飛ぶ鳥、地面の石ころ、あらゆる存在に独自の理由があり、
それらはめぐりめぐって私たち人間の営みとつながっています。
人間の活動が地球環境に及ぼす影響は今、だれもが実感している通りです。
しかし今こそ、他者（種）の視点を意識し、世界のありようを照らそうとする写真家たちのまなざしが、
「人間中心主義」を脱し、他者（種）と共存するための道すじを教えてくれます。
かつて私たちの祖先は、見えるものと見えざるもの、生命と非生命の境界が
曖昧にとけ合う、独自の価値観を育んできました。
かたちを変えながらも受け継がれてきたこうした感性こそが、
ulus publishingの一冊一冊の本をかたちづくっています。
私たちの作る本は、世界と結び直されるための問いかけに満ちています。
それはやがて「more-than-human*（人間の尺度を超えた現実）」の概念とも接続し、
これからもこの地球で生きていくためのよりどころになるでしょう。
中世モンゴル語で「人の集まる場所」を意味するウルス（ulus）。
遊牧の民はかつて土地所有の概念を持たず、境界のない大地を移動しながら万物の循環のなかに自らを委ねていました。
その思想にならい、私たちは「本」というかたちを通じて、地球と調和することを模索し続けます。

人文学や人類学、哲学等の分野で近年提唱されている視点です。
人間を中心に据えて物事を捉える「人間中心主義」を越え、網の目のように絡まり合う「外部」を
ヒトと同列の存在として深める思索の道すじ。（と、私は捉えています）
Living Among Ambiguous Borders
The gaze of photographers contemplating the cycles of the Earth and life offers us profound insight.
Humanity often measures the value of things using scales that serve only ourselves.
Yet, the flower blooming by the roadside, the bird soaring in the sky—every existence possesses its own inner logic. Intertwined in continuous cycles, they are deeply connected to the rhythm of human life.
Today, the impact of human activity on the global environment is something we all feel firsthand.
Now more than ever, the gaze of photographers—seeking to illuminate the state of the world through the perspectives of other species—shows us a path to transcend human-centrism and coexist with the other.
Our ancestors once cultivated a unique worldview where the boundaries between the visible and invisible, the living and the non-living, dissolved into ambiguity.
This innate sensitivity, though transformed across generations, continues to shape every book created by ulus publishing.
The books we craft are filled with invitations to reconnect with the world.
They ultimately align with the concept of the “more-than-human*,” offering a quiet foundation for continuing to live upon this Earth.
Derived from the Middle Mongolian word ulus, meaning “a gathering place of people.”
Nomadic peoples once held no concept of land ownership, entrusting themselves to the eternal circulation of all things as they traversed borderless lands.
Embracing this ethos, we continue to explore ways to harmonize with the Earth through the physical medium of the “book.”

A perspective recently proposed across the humanities, anthropology, and philosophy. It transcends traditional human-centrism, offering a path of thought that treats the deeply interconnected “outside” world on equal footing with humanity (as we interpret it).

Born in Chiba Prefecture. Graduated from the Department of Sociology in the Faculty of Letters at Chuo University.
After working as an editor at a publishing house handling camera magazines, nature magazines, and photo books, she became a freelance editor in 2019.
In September 2023, she launched her independent publishing practice under the name ulus publishing.
